Jamie XX is a familiar face on the British music scene. Since 2009, he’s been at the cutting edge of pop culture, whether handling keyboards and production for indie darlings The XX or remixing jazz poet Gil Scott-Heron’s I’m New Here.

2015 saw the release of the artist’s first solo album In Colour. The result of a half-decade’s work, it is a heartfelt ode to club culture, informed by rave and garage music. It is a tribute to the producer’s formative influences, and a vivid exploration of those late-night havens that dot the nation’s cities.

Synthesising underground influences into a record of mainstream appeal, the album drew its share of scepticism. For the most part, though, it quickly became a critical favourite. Rightly so; the album creates an atmosphere like few others, evoking the peaks and troughs of nightlife in poignant technicolour.

On Friday 26, Jamie XX plays Alexandra Palace: his largest solo show to date. Tickets are on sale from 9am on the 27 November and, given the producer’s immense popularity, aren’t likely to hang around for long. For fans of electronic music, this is heartily recommended.
