Fairport Convention, Union Chapel

The grand-daddies of English folk-rock are still at the top of their game: see for yourself at the Fairport Convention Concert in London March 2015.

Fairport Convention, Union Chapel
These folk-rock grand-daddies show no signs of slowing down, despite four decades at the top, and return to one of their favourite venues Union Chapel for a London gig on March 1 2015.
Their 2013 tour had all the vigour (though only one original band-member) of their 1969 album Liege & Lief, which was voted The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time. The combination of traditional folk repertoire with rock sensibilities, played with modern rhythms upon electric instruments was hitherto unheard. Fairport had invented electric folk, an easy marriage of the new and old - with a distinctly English accent. It was a timely invention: the band harnessed an army of fans.
Among old classics like Meet on the Ledge and Who Knows Where the Time Goes expect surprises, experiments and some brand new material. Fairport Convention gigs are always a mixture of seasoned fanatics and curious newcomers- so don’t worry if your knowledge of traditional music is a bit thin. Grab this opportunity to see the original folksters in action- we wonder where the Laura Marlings and Stornoways of this world would be without them.
