Noel Gallagher and Future Islands for Teenage Cancer Trust, Royal Albert Hall
The first in 2015's season of Teenage Cancer Trust gigs has been announced, kicking off what will be the 15th year of charity nights at the Royal Albert Hall in aid of the trust. Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds will kick off the 2015 run this coming spring, following hot on the heels of HFB's second LP, Chasing Yesterday, slated for release on March 2nd.
These nights are the brainchild of The Who frontman and British rock royalty Roger Daltrey, who was back at the Royal Albert Hall recently for The Who Hits 50, an evening of The Who covers which featured, amongst a stellar list of performing artists, Noel's brother Liam, whose own post-Oasis pet project, Beady Eye, do not appear to be in such good health.
This will be the seventh appearance Noel has made for the TCT, over the course of which he has released a live album for the Trust, and even curated the 2013 season.
In fact, though, it's probably the support act we should be getting most excited about. Returning for another very welcome stay on this side of the pond, Future Islands will provide the warm-up on the night, and what a warm-up they are likely to be. If you're not familiar with Samuel T. Herring and his unique brand of howling, soul-baring disco-rock, then consider this a welcome opportunity to become so – you won't regret it. For the Baltimore trio, this appearance at London's most historic and grandiose venue marks another step along a remarkable but utterly deserved rise to global stardom, and one at which, for such a good cause, it would well be worth joining them.
