The Subways, Shepherd's Bush Empire
If you or your teenager is in the mood for stomping around, we have just the ticket. The perpetually riled-up Subways return this year with their fourth, self-titled album.
If you’re unfamiliar with these pop-punk survivors, think self-conscious riffs and screeches of of 'Be My little Rock n Roll Queen', ‘We Don’t Need Money to Have A Good Time’ and Oh Yeah’ from vocalists Charlotte Cooper and Billy Lunn
In 2005, the threesome and their Doc Martens strode onto the scene and into the hearts of frustrated adolescents everywhere. Their debut album Young For Eternity and its follow up ‘All or Nothing were critical hits, full of yells, turbo guitar and stubborn freneticism. Their third album was less successful; critics agreed that it was case of too much bark and not enough bite.
Double-album ‘The Subways’ will be released next February, and by the sound of things, the trio are back on form. So far, they’ve only released a single, 'I’m In Love And It’s Burning In My Soul’. Despite the sentiment, the track is weighty with feedback and growl, spiked with vocalists Lunn and Cooper’s trademark abrasion. The Subways appear to have more torque and more horsepower than ever before.
