St. Vincent, Roundhouse

Peerless American multi-instrumentalist St Vincent brings her unique one-woman act to the Roundhouse this October.

St. Vincent, Roundhouse
Leftfield Southern belle Annie Clark, better known as St Vincent, creates singularly intelligent groove-ridden rock-pop. Think 80s Madonna vocals, rock’n’roll turbo- guitar and 'a more-is-more' theatricality.
Her style
Not exactly easy-listening, Annie Clark's musical style is baroque, toying with electro, funk, prog-rock and pop. She’s often compared to Bowie, but you can judge for yourself in October, when she plays the Roundhouseaccompanied by her live band.
Musical evolution
2011's haunting Strange Mercy, St Vincent's infectious third album, was full of crisp guitars, poppy vocal hooks, and great song(wo)manship: a hard act to follow.  Yet three years later St Vincent, in Clark's own words, has gone from a record that was full of “self-laceration” to something much more “extroverted”.
Latest album
'St Vincent' is raucous and elaborate. On Birth in Reverse ,  Distortion and growl lurk throughout, as in the undulating Rattlesnake , while Digital Witness  is alive with exuberant trumpets and high pitched guitars.
Live shows
As bold as her music, Annie is no shrinking violet – and her she puts on a gale-force live shows: spectacularly choreographed, she presides from a giant podium, splattered with fake-blood. Long live the Queen! Get your ticket now.
