New streetfood pop up turned permanent restaurant Walter and Monty, brings its Eastern flavours to the City

Walter and Monty restaurant, City
'Gutsy streetfood'. This is how Walter & Monty, street food trend-setters think of themselves.

And for good reason: after successful runs at street food pop ups, such as East London's hip "Summer Tales", Walter & Monty is now popping up in East London's Bury Court with their first permanent venue. Expect their famous beef picanha sourced locally from Smithfield meat market, as well as a succulent butterflied Leg of Lamb, marinated in mint, garlic and lemon.

Lively interiors from the Night Tales design team will complement the food, along with a glass fronted open kitchen: with all meat prepared in front of clientele. Marble top counters and wooden panelling make the whole atmosphere at Walter and Monty sound very robust indeed, with the feel of an old butcher's shop.

Barbecue streetfood has long been making waves on London's streets, and Walter & Monty present their own version of 'charcoal cooking' – referencing the East but cooked to Western tastes: the duo of grill enthusiasts marinate meat and fish in 'exotic elixirs' and then cook them on an open fire with classic and uncomplicated techniques.

It all sounds very macho and meaty: if that's your kind of thing, head to Walter & Monty on the 14 April to try their food for free – or on the 18th for the opening proper.
