Bad Egg

New London restaurant Bad Egg, opens in Moorgate this month, giving a new calibre to London's foodie scene with its celebration of the humble egg.

Bad Egg
If you don't love eggs, we'd hazard a guess that maybe this one's not for you: one of the most unusual restaurants London has seen in a while, the first egg-themed restaurant and all-day diner has recently opened its doors in EC2.
Neil Rankin, executive chef of Islington's The Smokehouse (the UK's only real wood barbecue restaurant – Rankin has a habit of opening the quirky restaurants London craves) indulges his life-long 'egg pervert' inclination by creating the Bad Egg, which promises to provide not only a new take on the classic English Breakfast, but to feature egg dishes from all around the globe: if you're looking for different restaurants in London, your search ends here. The menu features such culinary delights as a Malaysian Sambal with galangal and shrimp, and chaat masala hash with sweet tamarind: trendy London restaurants just got, well, trendier.
The restaurant will be overseen by Rankin, but Daniel Merry will have his finger on the pulse as Head Chef. Both have vowed to stay away from tired cliché (no soft-boileds or Eggs Benedict here), but for the non-egg-lover there will be a selection of asian slaws, burgers and chicken ribs. The pair will aim to use mainly chicken and duck eggs in their dishes, so don't panic, you're not going to find yourself chowing down on a huge ostrich egg. With Camden beers on tap, cocktails and wine, this is one of those quirky London restaurants that doesn't sacrifice quality booze for quality food.
After its limited opening over Christmas, Bad Egg has now got itself up-and-running, aiming to bring all-day 'til late' eggy delights starting in January. Who knows what reception it's going to get, nonetheless we expect it will be the best restaurant in East London for egg-nuts –we're keen to get cracking and try it out for ourselves.
And, if you've not had your fill of eggy treats and are after nice places to go for brunch in London, get inspired by our list of London's best brunch spots here.
