Never Mind the Baubles, Barbican Centre

Not a fan of Christmas clichés? This December, the Barbican are sticking it to the man with a selection of films with a punk rock edge

Never Mind the Baubles, Barbican Centre
Punk films are rockin and rollin onto the Barbican's screens this December.

Kicking it all off is Rock in Reykjavík: a digital restoration of the fascinating documentary on early 80s Iceland and its bustling alternative music scene. With performances from and political interviews with bands like Egó,Vonbrigdi and Purrkur Pillnikk, as well as the famously experimental young Björk herself, this film shows that punk is most definitely not dead.

For a punk romance, Canadian filmmaker Bruce LaBruce's No Skin Off My Ass is a not-so-classic love story about a punk hairdresser who becomes obsessed with a young skinhead. A stylised, fearlessly graphic number, filmed in black and white – LaBruce's film is truly convention challenging.

Named after the much loved Ramones song, musical comedy Rock ‘n’ Roll High School tells the story of a student rebellion of Vince Lombardi high school. Join the students as they refuse to give a damn about their bad reputation, and take over the school in this energetic, anarchy packed film. The perfect antidote to Christmas cheer.
