Bold Tendencies 2015

South London's hub this summer can be found lurking in a disused Peckham car park where mover and shaker of the contemporary art world Hannah Barry has unleashed the Bold Tendencies 2015 programme. Bold Tendencies, Hannah Barry Gallery's annual extravaganza transforms this urban jungle into a vibrant venue filled with exhibitions, performances, installations and popup restaurants. The real highlights are the series of ambitious sculptures on display, but we've picked our highlights for 2015 so you don't miss any of the fun.

Heading up the art section is heavyweight British conceptual sculptor Richard Wentworth who has created a new installation that fills the roof floor with a geometric design in rich aluminium paint. Over the course of the summer Agora will bring the urban space to life, evolving and changing as the rain comes down and the English weather batters the car park.
You'll also want to look out for Aspects of Change by the AIRBNB Pavilion art collective, organised by London curator Attilia Fattori Franchini, where domestic comfort meets urban edge. And then the quirky group Metahaven are creating an enormous collection of patterned garments to fill a discomforting lattice of old mobile phones and gadgets. This overwhelming sensory installation unpicks the neurosis of social media. The Derek Jarman garden is also worth spending time in. This idyll in the middle of Peckham was originally designed by Propagating Dan (Dan Bristow) in 2013. 
Bold Tendencies events
South London music lovers will be delighted to hear Bold Tendencies 2015 marks the launch of a brand new radio station, You and Me Music. Lodged between Rye Lane record shop YAM Records and local Peckham label First Word Records, YAM Radio station embraces the musical talent and unique sound of South East London. There's also a whole host of performances to choose from. 
We recommend catching the monologue series inspired by Ancient Greek writer Sophocles, staged in the unlikely surroundings of a Peckham car park (19th June, 24th July). Then a 100 children take on a new composition by Kate Whitley and poet Sabrina Mahfouz, known for taking music out of dusty concert halls (2nd July). 
The curious ballet about the American prairie settlers called Appalachian Spring gets a reworking by The Multi-Story Orchestra, led by conductor Christopher Stark (4th July), and we can't wait to hear the dulcet tones of 20th century French spectral music reverberate across the concrete (8th & 9th August). The car park auditorium also plays host to some stellar rap, speech and song performances over the summer that you'll want to pay attention to (8th July).
Other curious events include the independent artists' Copeland Book Market where unusual publications get the spotlight and the serene rooftop yoga classes throughout the summer (Saturday and Sundays 10-11am, Mondays 7-8pm). 
Kids and families might want to check out the Sunday afternoon workshops at Bold Tendencies, with painting, crafts, music workshops, botanical sketching and film screenings. Curious children can also take part in the tours of the artistic commissions to get a head start in contemporary art studies.
