Cross the Tracks Festival, Brockwell Park

Cross the Tracks Festival, Brockwell Park
Mere hours after the last nostalgia-chasing, pop-loving Mighty Hoopla attendees have left Brockwell Park in a trail of glitter and sequins, Cross the Tracks festival comes rolling in, bringing with it some of the biggest names in contemporary jazz, funk and soul, plus their 'cool crowd' fans.

Headlining the day-long event are funk-rock trio Khruangbin, who will likely perform some sneak previews from their latest EP Texas Moon as well as hits from their six albums. BRIT Award nominee and 2021 breakthrough artist Joy Crookes is also headlining, offering fans a chance to listen live to tracks from her debut album Skin.

Those who remember the 80s might be especially excited to hear Grammy-nominated American jazz pianist and R&B singer Patrice Rushen, while DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson is likely to sure to get festival-goers of all ages grooving to his Acid jazz, hip hop and soul mixes.

Further highlight sets come from American singer-songwriter Mereba and Zambian-born, Australia-based rapper and songwriter Sampa the Great.

If all the dancing and walking between stages leaves you peckish, take your pick of 40 street food vendors dotted around the site. Then wash your chosen dishes down with a craft beer (or four) from the Local Brewers Market.

Cross the Tracks isn't all about the music, though. There's yoga classes, talks and workshops to get involved with, plus an independent creatives market showcasing the wares of south London traders.

Ready? It's time to Cross the Tracks.
