Battersea Power Station Light Festival

Battersea Power Station brightens up winter nights in London with the return of its annual Light Festival

Battersea Power Station Light Festival – Butterfly Effect by Masamichi Shimada

The darkest days of winter will become bright and colourful in and around Battersea Power Station for its month-long Light Festival, which will feature seven dazzling light installations from British and international artists.

Some are interactive and respond to the visitors' movements. It's the case with Light Piano by Arion de Munck and Mark Ridder, which is situated in Turbine Hall B. Visitors will be able simultaneously to play the piano and play with light, the result being an instrument that appeals to more than one sense. On Mondays and Wednesdays evening there will be a schedule of musicians showing how it's done.

Also interactive is C/C by Angela Chong situated on Electric Boulevard.

This sculpture lights up in the dark and can be used as a bench. Made from thick sheets of transparent acryl, it uses coloured LED lights that reflect in the material. During the day it creates various shadows and in the evening it transforms into a colourful light show.

Butterfly Effect by Masamichi Shimada (pictured top) is located in the water feature in Circus West Village. Six huge butterflies rise and fall with the movement of their bright blue glow against the dark night in what the artist says symbolises the power of the individual and small gestures to overcome difficulties.

Cloudy Lanterns by Mad Rhizome is located on the Upper Ground level of Electric Boulevard.

Floating geometric clouds consisting of a thousand coloured crystals project a diffuse glow that never fails to capture the attention of passers by.

Those are just some of the installations you'll be able to see during Battersea Power Station Light Festival; and with the whole complex including a vast number of options for shopping and dining, you can certainly make an evening of it.
