Next week, Westbourne Grove's historic 20th Century Theatre invite guests to join them for a 'cultural knees-up' as they collaborate with Schiaparelli Strings and Rose Kentish Kitchen to host a unique soirée on 1 April. The evening will be a spin on the Parisian Salon concept, replete with music, food and candlelight.
A Victorian concert hall
The soirée will be held in the theatre's candlelit Victorian concert hall, as the theatre invites some of London's finest musicians, the Schiaparelli Strings, to perform, led by Hannah Dawson of the Sacconi string quartet. The quartet, one of the best-known young British ensembles of its kind, will be making its debut performing live musical interludes in-between courses. Given their repertoire, they'll most likely performing a number of well-known nineteenth century classics, including the likes of Haydn, Mendelssohn, Dvorak.
Contemporary music
The ensemble's intersection with Ed Harcourt (known for his dulcet tones, reminiscent of the great Nick Cave) will no doubt provide for an interesting evening, with an intriguing mix of classical and contemporary music, and we're promised a few special guests as well.
For the 'Bon Viveur'
To complement the music, the theatre will be serving up a four-course dinner, with a menu specially crafted for the event by the Rose Kentish Kitchen. The evening commences with a glass of prosecco on arrival, initiating guests into the true spirit of the Parisian 'Bon Viveur.' Following this there'll be a four course feast, featuring seasonal dishes from the gastronomical talents at Rose Kentish Kitchen.
On the menu
The menu features starters of potted rabbit with redcurrant jelly, and soused mackerel with pickled red onion rings. For mains, there'll be a succulent fennel braised pork belly dressed in a fennel and cider jus and accompanied by crushed new potatoes with wild garlic. There'll also be an accompanying salad of celeriac, pomegranate and truffle oil, garnished with walnuts.
To finish it all off, for dessert there'll be a rich and enticing orange and almond torte with creme fraiche and pistachio – and there'll be plenty of vegetarian options on offer as well. Wine will be available to purchase throughout the evening from the bar with a specially matched wine-list, curated by Jack Chaddock of OW Loeb.
