Engineering the World: Ove Arup and the Philosophy of Total Design, V&A

Soaring white sails of the Sydney Opera House come to life in V&A 2016 exhibition of master designer Ove Arup

Sydney Opera House Australia, Ove Arup engineer
V&A celebrates the trailblazing work of design engineer Ove Arup, who changed the Sydney skyline forever with those famous soaring white sails of the Opera House, in a new display.
Who was Ove Arup?
The Sydney Opera House was a defining moment for Ove Arup - despite the lengthy building time from 1957 to 1973 and frequent squabbles with the Sydney Opera House architect Jørn Utzon. Aside from his most memorable project in Sydney Harbour, this 20th century engineer was a pioneer in a radical new design philosophy that centred on collaborative working and architecture as a tool for social responsibility.
V&A exhibition 2016
Architecture and design lovers can get excited about this forthcoming show at the V&A museum where you'll find not only original plans for the Sydney Opera House, but Arup's Penguin Pool at London Zoo and more recent projects from Ove Arup & Partners. Large-scale prototypes, digital animations and models bring this design exhibition to life, which is given an extra fizz with an installation in the John Madejski Garden by engineer and architect Achim.
Love or hate his designs, Ove Arup forever changed the world with his innovations and this show is well worth exploring to get to grips with his finest work.
