North London's answer to the best flowers in the city is florist to the stars, Scarlet & Violet. Owner Victoria Brotherson is so popular with celebrities she's practically on speed dial at Vogue.
The elegant florist is best known for its simple and loose arrangements, vintage vases and classic British-grown flowers. The ramshackle shop near Kensal Rise is filled with an amazing array of quirky objects from jugs, buckets and glass jars to milk bottles. You'll also find the unpretentious bouquets are traditional and gorgeous with their country garden flowers, including nodding peonies, hollyhocks and delphiniums.
Setting up Scarlet & Violet in 2004, Brotherson used to work for Wild at Heart's Nikki Tibbles on her original stall where she learnt the tools of the trade at the age of 21. Now her packed flower shop is filled with foliage and blooms from the New Covent Garden Flower Market, which she never orders in advance. Instead Brotherson prefers to work from a broad colour brief when choosing the freshest British flowers.
For a lover of home-grown blossoms, Scarlet & Violet flowers are the best place to start.
