A Christmas Spectacular: Decorative Arts from The John Scott Collection, Fine Art Society

Once in a lifetime sale of British decorative arts from the John Scott Collection at the Fine Art Society, Bond Street

John Scott (Howard Sooley)
After half a century spent accumulating British decorative arts, eccentric collector John Scott has put 1,000 of his astonishing pieces up for sale. Rather unexpectedly the Christmas Spectacular is in partnership with The Fine Art Society, London. Scott explains that he was driven by the early kindness of the Society which allowed the young collector to buy works in instalments of £100 a week.
The collection…
Scott’s cave of wonders in Notting Hill is arguably one of the finest collections of British objects and design, spanning 1830-1930. Amongst the arts and crafts, and curiosities we are particularly looking forward to seeing the stained glass by great modern designers A.W.N. Pugin and Charles Eamer Kempe.
The sale…
The latest design event London, the sixth in a series of exhibitions at FAS, presents over 400 works which range in from £20 to £20,000. For those in search of Christmas inspiration, there’s little doubt something unique will catch your eye. With rare work by some of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries’ greatest (and at times unfairly neglected) designers, the show promises to be astonishing even for those not wishing to buy.
