John, The National Theatre

DV8 Physical Theatre returns to the National this October with John, an exciting new verbatim dance-theatre production.

John, The National Theatre
The show was born out of a series of interviews conducted by Lloyd Newson, artistic director of DV8, with over 50 men, one of whom was the John of the title. This innovative productions intermingles the spontaneous speech and stories of real life into a broader drama exploring drugs, sex, crime and survival, as John searches for meaning and connection with others.
DV8 Dance Academy
Combining spoken word and movement, DV8 have a unique brand of theatre-craft that uses reality as the basis for aesthetically spectacular performances. Winners of numerous awards, including a Grand Prix de Danse and an International Emmy for Performing Arts, their performances have garnered international acclaim. DV8's shows are not traditional dance pieces and involved little formal technique, but physicality is at the centre of their work.
Expect a more expressive and liberated sort of movement, which allows aesthetics and narrative to co-exist and, as the physical theatre company themselves put it, to ‘clearly and unpretentiously’ tell a story.
