EDge, The Place

Young graduates of the London Contemporary Dance School strut their stuff at The Place.

EDge, The Place

If you fancy an opportunity to spot future stars of contemporary dance , take yourself to The Place, where 12 young dancers freshly graduated from the London Contemporary Dance School present a varied programme of international choreography.

Trendily named Edge, the post-graduate company will return to their home as part of an international tour of seven countries to perform six works , four of which have been made specifically for them. They include a power to bring light into a darkened room by Ben Wright and Subject to Change , by former London Contemporary Dance School student, Joe Moran .

EDge will also present a restaging of avant-garde dance choreographer Trisha Brown’s Canto/Pianto (1998), a retelling of the Orpheus myth to music from Monteverdi ’s L’Orfeo; short works by Israeli choreographers and Maya Levy and Idan Cohen, and extracts from Yael Flexer’s The Living Room (2010) in which the dancers themselves jokingly take the form of sofas, bookshelves and reading lamps.

A former Choreographer in Residence at The Place, the Israeli-born Flexer says, "the idea is that we witness one another, so it’s not just about the audience watching us, but it’s also about us in a sense watching them (..) It’s always breaking the fourth wall".
