National Youth Dance Company, Sadler's Wells

National Youth Dance Company premières Tarantiseismic, showcasing a new enthusiastic and talented cast at Sadler’s Wells in April

National Youth Dance Company Damien Jalet Tarantiseismic
Forty diverse dancers aged 16 to 19 will debut Tarantiseismic, created by Guest Artistic Director Damien Jalet, at the north London dance venue before embarking on a national tour this summer.

Drawing on his contemporary choreographic style, Jalet has devised a unique piece of theatre, developed around the varied talents of his young cast.

Tarantiseismic addresses themes of melancholia, ritual, control and abandon, aspiring to shift the consciousness of the audience. This new commission will showcase the fearless energy, impressive talent and striking self-assurance audiences have come to expect from National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) performers.

The country’s flagship organisation for young dancers boasts thirty new members for the 2016 - 2017 season, recruited through nationwide NYDC Experience Workshops.

Now in its fifth year, NYDC mentors the dancers who win a coveted place in the company during three intensive residencies held throughout their year of membership. As well as giving these dancers a fascinating insight into the profession, NYDC endeavours to empower them to realise they are the creatives who will shape the future of dance.

Judging by past NYDC performances, we heartily recommend Tarantiseismic and look forward to seeing the future take shape
