Tenor Ian Bostridge joins the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment for the first concert of their 30th anniversary season, performing Handel and Telemann

Ian Bostridge with the OAE, St John's Smith Square
With the release of Schubert’s Winter Journey and his recent sell-out performance of Winterreise alongside Thomas Ades, Ian Bostridge has become indelibly associated with the music of the early nineteenth century. But that is only one aspect of his repertoire – he is also a committed interpreter of the baroque.
To launch the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment’s 2015/16 season, Bostridge will join the period ensemble at St John’s Smith Square for an evening of Handel and Telemann. It starts a wide-ranging programme celebrating the OAE’s 30th birthday.
The concert commences with one of Telemann’s Horn Concertos in F, a rarely heard gem from Bach’s and Handel’s self-taught friend. The first half will be rounded off by two of Handel’s arias, from Ariodante and Acis and Galatea respectively. After an interval, Bostridge will lead in Handel’s Silete Venti, a deeply expressive motet that resembles an opera in its scale and emotional acumen. Usually sung by a soprano, the presence of Bostridge’s tenor range promises to make it a unique experience.
