Lindberg World premiere with Barbara Hannigan, Royal Festival Hall

One of the best London classical music concerts 2015: the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Barbara Hannigan and a Lindberg world premiere.

Magnus Lindberg

A kaleidoscope of orchestral colour encapsulating some of the most sensational works written between the mid-nineteenth century until today, this concert brings together one of the world’s top orchestras, one of its most exciting performers and one of the leading composers of our times.

A world premiere by Magnus Lindberg is itself reason to attend, but when combined with the magnetic stage presence of Barbara Hannigan and the electric performances of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the concert becomes one of the most exciting events of the season.

Le martyre de Saint Sébastien is one of Debussy’s least well-known and most alluring works. Narrating the death of the Christian saint, the score is a veritable feast of bewitching orchestral sonorities.

Arguably the most significant piece of the nineteenth century, Wagner’s Prelude to Tristan und Isolde is no less alluring, with rich, luxurious orchestration underpinning the sensual harmonies. Scriabin’s Le poème de l’extase is no less seductive; based on the composer’s own poem telling of the soul’s ascent to a transcendental state, the narrative is conveyed in intoxicating musical language.

However, it is the world premiere by Magnus Lindberg which promises to be the highlight of the night. The LPO’s Composer in Residence is renowned for his glittering orchestral sounds, crystalline textures and propulsive rhythms, earning praise from critics and fellow composers alike.

Barbara Hannigan is an extraordinarily talented proponent of contemporary music, bringing character, passion and staggering technique to every role. Conductor Vladimir Jurowski’s partnership with the LPO has produced some stunning results, particularly in more recent repertoire. Book now for this unmissable concert.
