Nigel Kennedy, Lang Lang and the trumpeter Alison Balsom top the bill, but the Royal Albert Hall's festival of classical music is not only about the world-class stars.

With music-making on a grand and on a more intimate scale, there are events around the clock – including the Love Classical Quiz (12 Mar), Afternoon Tea with Live Opera (4 Mar), featuring soprano Fleur de Bray, and yoga with live music (5 Mar).

BBC Young Musician of the Year Sheku Kanneh-Mason introduces his pianist sister Isata and violinist brother Braimah when the Kanneh-Mason Trio gives a recital of chamber music in the salon-style Elgar Room (12 Mar), where earlier the same day rising star pianist Victor Maslov plays Brahms and Rachmaninov at a coffee concert.

Kennedy and Friends are sure to spring some musical surprises in a programme that could range from Bach to Hendrix (14 Mar), while pianist Lang Lang (13 and 15 Mar) will open with Debussy before the musical fireworks by Liszt, Albeniz, Granados and de Falla that will showcase his acclaimed virtuosity.

The trumpeter Alison Balsom has redefined her instrument's repertoire with exciting commissions and arrangements. In Alison Balsom and Friends (12 Mar) she is joined by organist David Goode for spectacular voluntaries, and gives the world premiere of a new piece for turntables and trumpet by Gabriel Prokofiev. (Check out his Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra, one of the BBC Ten Pieces for secondary pupils).

Also living life on the edge is the London Contemporary Orchestra, which works with both classical and rock artists, including Radiohead, Jonny Greenwood and Goldfrapp. The orchestra's concert (4 Mar) is literally an underground event – it takes place in the secret world of the Royal Albert Hall's cavernous loading bay.
