London Chamber Orchestra tea concerts, 116 Pall Mall

Elegance is the key to the venue, hospitality and programming in a double treat

Before the concert, a Searcys afternoon tea at 116 Pall Mall
An attractive new venture by the London Chamber Orchestra combines two of our favourite things – a delectable afternoon tea followed by an original concert of live and varied music.

The three-concert series at elegant Georgian mansion 116 Pall Mall spans a wide range of tastes, both culinary and musical.

Jazz musicians join trumpeter and singer Pete Horsfall for the opening event (Sat 24 Sept) in a programme dedicated to the art of Louis Armstrong. Pete has played on the jazz supremo's own instruments, and with Rachael Cohen (saxophone), Alex Bryson (piano), Ferg Ireland (double bass), and Matt Skelton (drums) he recreates the New Orleans jazzman's unique sound.

But the secret ingredient to this and the other two concerts is the Searcys' afternoon tea offered before the 6:30PM performance. With restaurants also at the Gherkin, the Barbican and Champagne Bar at St Pancras International, Searcys is celebrating its 175th anniversary in style.

The second concert, with tea from 4PM beforehand, is entitled Chill Dusk (Sat 1 Oct, 6:30PM). This programme reflects the gentle onset of autumn, as the nights draw in. With the emphasis on relaxing musical textures, items include American minimalist Philip Glass's String Quartet No 3, Radiohead's Motion Picture Soundtrack, Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel, plus Jessie Montgomery's Strum and Sigur Ros' Hoppipolla arranged for string quartet.

The final concert, Autumn Glow (Sat 15 Oct, 6:30PM) celebrates the warmth of seasonal colours with Linda Buckley's Exploding Stars, Max Richter's On the Nature of Daylight, Elgar's Nimrod and Vivaldi's much loved Autumn.

Concert tickets cost £39; afternoon tea and a concert ticket costs £69.
