Music brings back memories, and the master of encapsulating the power of memory was the French writer Marcel Proust.

A concert marking 100 years since his death, staged by the Institut Français, part of its lively series Les Salons en Musique, features works by the author's contemporaries (Wed 18 May, 8:30PM).

Violinist Geneviève Laurenceau and pianist David Bismuth take a musical journey through the landscape of the celebrated author of A la recherche du temps perdu (In Search of Lost Time). The route includes works by the lyrical Reynaldo Hahn, a sonata and Romance by Camille Saint-Saëns, and music by Richard Wagner.

Geneviève Laurenceau performs across Europe, and is artistic director of the Obernai Music Festival, in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace, which was founded under her direction in 2009. David Bismuth has appeared at many festivals and is a sought-after chamber musician.

Concert-goers can make an evening of it by adding a glass of champagne and slate of cheese, charcuterie and other delicacies at Café Tangerine to their booking.

The next concert in the series will be A Musical Escape from Paris to London with Trio Jenlis, on (Thurs 23 June, 7:30PM). This charming concert series resumes in September.
Please note that this concert takes place round the corner from the Institut Français, at the Ciné Lumière, 17 Queensberry Place, South Kensington, London SW7 2DT
