With its generous stalls area and spacious balconies, Cadogan Hall off Sloane Square is well equipped to welcome a live audience once more. Its new autumn programme features classical musical, family events and jazz.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra gets into its stride again with informal 75-minute performances. Get to know the orchestra's sections with an introduction to the Brass and Percussion (30 Sept, 1:15PM), the versatile Wind players (14 Oct, 1:15PM) and the indispensable Strings (11 Nov, 1:15PM). These Wednesday lunchtime sessions slip neatly into the working day or between errands.

And here's a Christmas treat for all the family: on Mon 21 Dec, the Mozart Symphony Orchestra performs the world premiere of a new adaptation of The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The book has been re-worked into a piece for narrator and orchestra by Philip Mackenzie. And in the manner of the classic Peter and the Wolf, each character is represented by a different instrument of the orchestra. The concert also includes a showing of The Snowman with live soundtrack.
