Under the direction of Marin Alsop, Proms 2016 focuses on South American music with a new work by Marlos Nobre, composer

The music of South America is one of the themes of this year’s Proms, and this programme, given by the Sao Paolo Symphony Orchestra under its conductor Marin Alsop, includes one of the Bachianas Brasilieras - the Bach-goes-Latin pieces by Villa-Lobos - and a new work by the Brazilian composer Marlos Nobre called Kabbalah.

Also sure to please is Grieg’s evergreen Piano Concerto with the dynamic Venezuelan soloist Gabriela Montero and Rachmaninov’s splashy Symphonic Dances. It will be impossible not to hum a bit of everything all the way home.
