Pasolini filmography: Poetry and Politics, Institute of Contemporary Arts London
To mark the 40th anniversary of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s untimely death, the Institute of Contemporary Arts (in conjunction with the Italian Cultural Institute) is organising three special screenings for cinephiles hoping to (re)discover Pasolini’s remarkable filmography.
Widely regarded as one of Italy’s greatest filmmakers, Pasolini was strongly influenced by neorealism, consistently expressing his controversial political ideologies on screen.
Pasolini filmography, ICA
Pasolini, Poetry and Politics will give viewers an insight into the legendary director’s mastery through its careful selection of the most noteworthy films from his oeuvre. The festival will begin with a showing of Pasolini’s first feature Accattone, where prostitutes and pimps loiter in Rome’s bedraggled streets.
Next up on the programme is The Gospel according to Matthew – in which Pasolini adds his own ideological slant to Jesus’ story – and finally the heavily political drama Pigsty.
New film Pasolini, Willem Dafoe
The new Pasolini season at the ICA coincides with the release of a new biopic on the iconic director, Abel Ferrara's Pasolini starring Willem Dafoe. Click here to read our Pasolini review.
