The Motion Picture Supper Club, London: The Bloomsbury Ballroom
Tanqueray presents: Motion Picture Supper Club
We’ve all got visions of what makes the perfect night out, and some combination of cocktails, live music, a great film, dinner, dancing and more live music would probably be pretty high on most people’s wish list. now - thanks to Tanqueray and the Disappearing Dining Club - you can find all this and more at the Bloomsbury Ballroom on Bloomsbury Square this June.
The Motion Picture Supper Club looks to take us back to the Art Deco opulence of the Roaring Twenties for a night of dancing, dining and great cinema.
Cocktails and Jazz
Once you step inside in beautiful surrounds of the Bloomsbury Ballroom, you’ll be treated to pre-dinner cocktails from a classic lineup (first one’s on the house), while enjoying the throwback sounds of Dom And The Iko's, London’s finest exponents of 20s and 30s jazz. Sip a Martini at the bar or work up an appetite with a little jive.
Dinner and a Movie
You’ll be led to your seats in the Bloomsbury’s centrepiece Art Deco ballroom, and served dinner cabaret-style while the evening’s film plays. Book a ticket for Friday night and you’ll see Damien Chazelle's Whiplash, an exhilarating gem about a young Jazz musician's struggle to achieve greatness – treated to a standing ovation at Cannes, this isn't one to miss if you have the chance to see it on a big screen. Saturday sees Wes Anderon's iconic The Grand Budapest Hotel (read our recent exclusive interview with star Jason Schwartzman here).
On the menu
The three course menu – put together by the team from the always-excellent Disappearing Dining Club - brings locally sourced, delicious and indulgent courses: canapés of Brick Lane smoked salmon on guinness bread and brie croquette with cloudberry chutney set the standard, followed by a delicious sounding starter of grilled asparagus, goat’s cheese and quail’s egg. For mains there's a choice, we think the slow roast pork belly with sun dried tomato, chorizo and mixed bean salad sounds divine, and we can't wait to finish with the DDC strawberry and elderflower trifle: the menu's about as seasonal and British as it gets.
The After Party
Hopefully by now you’re not too full to dance some more? The boys from Dom And The Iko's are back to get you out of your seats and onto the floor with their more raucous ragtime numbers. Cocktails will flow from a selection of bars, including a dimly-lit, vintage diner, and we’re told you’ve got two options for going-home time: late, or very late.
Motion Picture Summer Club: tickets
At £65 for dinner, dancing, a flick, a chance to spend an evening inside one of London’s finest Art Deco spaces and a drink or two thrown in along the way, the price is definitely right.
