Light Years film 2016
Bafta-winning director Esther Campbell presents a family’s struggle with isolation, communication and illness in this new moving UK indie drama starring Beth Orton.

Light Years tells the story of a family fractured across a heat-hazed landscape. Rose (played by Zamira Fuller) longs to see her mother, but her father (Muhammet Uzuner) preoccupies himself from the desolate atmosphere with work and her siblings absent themselves distractedly from the scene.

Isolated and unnoticed, Rose sets off alone into the wilderness to find her mother. But instead of exacerbating her solitary state, Rose's adventure provokes a poignant family reunion, where the family momentarily explores the notion of familial togetherness, and try to face their challenges side by side using love as powerful ammunition against adversity.

Campbell's feature found great success at the Venice Film Festival in 2015 and was highly acclaimed for its portrayal of fragile emotions and the complexities of family relationships.
