Collateral Beauty

Director David Frankel (Marley and Me, The Devil Wears Prada) looks set to dazzle with an all-star cast that includes Will Smith and Kate Winslet.

Collateral Beauty
'Love, Time, and Death. These three things connect every single human being on earth.' So says Will Smith's character in the trailer for Collateral Beauty, instantly recalling Six Degrees of Separation, the 1993 movie that made his name.

But despite its apparently heavy themes, Collateral Beauty looks to be a much lighter-hearted movie - it has Helen Mirren in a blue beret and feather boa, playing the personification of death. We're thinking more It's a Wonderful Life than The Seventh Seal.

Will Smith plays Howard, a man with traumatic past and a fondness for brightly coloured dominoes. It's the former that drives him to start writing letters to Death, Time, and Love; things get strange when these amorphous concepts take his missives to heart and actually show up on his doorstep. Keira Knightley plays Love. Actually.

With Edward Norton, Kate Winslet, Michael Peña, and Naomi Harris as Howard's conspicuously famous-looking friends, Collateral Beauty should be a stratospheric success. We'll let you know if it's any good.
