Spring Updates for Your Makeup Bag

From swapping powders to creams and waterproofing your makeup, it's time to give your make-up bag a spring clean

Spring Makeup 2018
Avoid powder formulas

As the days grow longer and the weather gets warmer it may be tempting to reach for a trusty bronzer or translucent powder, but there are more sensible alternatives. Cream bronzers (our favourite being this one from Chanel) and setting mists (like this illuminating one from Cover FX) will help you avoid that 'caked on' mishap, which is encouraged by the heat.
Use SPF

While this rule technically applies to all seasons, it becomes particularly important at the start of spring. Many of us rely on the SPF found in our foundations and primers to shield us from the sun's harmful rays due to oily, heavy memories of suncreams of holidays past. Nowadays, however, there are a multitude of fantastically light UV protection formulas that sit comfortably under makeup. We love Dr Barbara Sturm's Sun Drops, which can be added into your skincare regime for a light, customisable approach, as well as Skinceuticals Mineral Radiance UV defense, which is lightweight and tinted and can be used in the place of foundation.
Tinted balms and sheer lipsticks are great for spring

Go for a slick of something hydrating and sheen-like on the lips – rather than a thick, matte choice – for an effortless, polished look. Glossier's Sheer Matte Lipstick is the ultimate choice, thanks to it's veil-like colour and clever, moisture-loss-prevention formula. The Lip Slick from Tom Ford is a winning choice too, and harnesses the added benefits of jojoba and coconut oil to plump and hydrate lips.
Let skin breathe

If you're someone who doesn't require full coverage and is after a lighter alternative, now is the time to ditch the heavy winter foundations and start considering tinted moisturisers, BB & CC creams, or just a lighter foundation if you're not ready to make that kind of commitment yet. Not only will they let your skin breathe, but you'll get that dewy glow we all know and love. While Becca's Aqua Luminous Foundation may not give the fullest coverage, it is a glow-giving, featherweight choice which is perfect for warmer weather, while Korean brand Erborian's BB Creme au Ginseng is a great all rounder.
Waterproof it

Sweat-proof your look with products that won't run. CliniqueFIT, for example, offers a waterproof mascara, a foundation, a lip and cheek tint, a hydrating spray, post-workout cleansing wipes, a mattifying moisturizer and a neutralising face powder to discourage redness. Talk about covering all the bases.
