New Wellness in W1

By Sarah Joan Ross on 30/7/2018

Fit in Fitzrovia

GLOW BAR, LONDON
GLOW BAR, LONDON
Say hello to London’s new wellness destination in W1. Yep, you heard us. About three minutes from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Circus, the nerve center of fast clothes and even faster food, there’s a whole world of wellness emerging. In fact, Mortimer Street is starting to look and feel more like LA than London. ‘Fitzrovia’ is obviously staying true to its name. From Psycle and Define’s super stylish spinning and exercise studios to unpretentious pampering at Hershesons' new 5,000-square-foot hair care space. Then there’s The Detox Kitchen, for brilliant post-workout sustenance. Furthermore, Glow Bar – the ultimate healthy space for women – is about to launch in August. Read on to find out more about our best of ‘Fit-zrovia’. See you there.

Glow London

GLOW BAR
Where:
70 Mortimer Street, London W1W 7RY (opening August)
Glow Bar was born from different life experiences by founder Sasha Sabapathy. She says, 'The idea of opening Glow Bar came about after realising that there weren’t many places in London that served as an escape from modern living in the city. I find traditional spas to be too stuffy, and some wellness spaces are quite sports focused. I wanted to create an environment that promoted a 360 approach to health and wellness, in a space that was both relaxed but fun and cool.'
Fitted with state of the art infrared saunas, (the biggest wellness craze coming out of NYC and LA), the space will also showcase a cafe serving up health-focused treats (think: Ashwagandha spiked lavender lattes), tonics and a customisable Elixir bar. It will also include high-end washrooms, a boutique featuring clean beauty products that use ingredients such as CBD, and everyday wellness items such as women’s health brand HANX, Bybi and Le Prunier.

Hershesons
HERSHESONS
Where:
29 Berner Street, London W1T 3LR

Luke Hersheson has finally taken the pretentiousness out of the salon experience. The space has a relaxed vibe – more modern beauty emporium than salon. It includes nice lighting (I know!) and smart design elements, such as mirrors that rotate (so you don’t need to stare at yourself for three-hours in foils), along with secret drawers that tidy away products and cables. Oh and the café serves some decent coffee and light dishes, courtesy of East End eatery, Sans Pere. While there, you can also book for beauty services by Ministry of Waxing, Suman Brows, and DryBye for nails. Fortunately, amongst all this hoopla, it also offers some of the best hairdressing in London, from brilliant blow dries to manageable modern cuts that are perfect for girls about town.

Psycle
PSYCLE LONDON
Where:
76 Mortimer Street, London W1W 7SA
These fun work out classes are all performed in low lighting, and to the beat of an in-house playlist, where the tempo is pre-determined by the time of day. Rooms are set to super cool and have a distinct aroma of lemongrass (rather than fellow exercisers' odours) and the stylish interiors, and changing areas provide everything you need for a post-sweaty workout – from hair bobbles, straighteners to posh shampoo and lovely Ila products. This is a world away from the worn-out gym spaces we’ve been subjected to in the past.
