What is the David Roberts Arts Foundation (DRAF)?
DRAF is one of the most exciting contemporary art galleries London, with a raucous programme of exhibitions, performances and live events which challenge contemporary artwork.
The Violet Crab exhibition 2015
Important new commissions for the show include murals by Allison Katz and Shaan Tariq Hassan-Syed, a video work by Brazilian artist Luiz Roque, and flower sculptures by LA-based artist Carter Mull.
There are even loaned works on display from big-name artists like Cindy Sherman and Anj Smith, as well as over sixty pieces from the David Roberts Collection figures including Roy Lichtenstein, Grayson Perry and Andy Warhol.
You won’t recognize the Artist Than Hussein Clark is also dramatically changing the traditional architecture of the gallery especially for the show. Clark, who has a background in theatre as well as art, regularly draws from traditions of interior and set design in order to re-imagine architectural spaces. Arguing that “the white cube of the gallery must no longer be so terrified of the black box of theatre”, Clark will create an elaborate mise-en-scene to house the works and explore the issues of identity, subjectivity and performance.
Grand Opening 2015
Though the entire show is jam-packed with events, don’t miss the extravagant Grand Opening which has been created in conjunction with science fiction writer Nina Allan among others. Bringing together performance, live drawing, contemporary dance and music, the gallery will come alive with satirical questions of “the erotic, the melodramatic, and the tragic”.
Don’t miss this exhibition in London - after all life is a cabaret ol’ chum…
