As part of their Imagine Festival during the February Half Term the Southbank Centre will be hosting two of the nation’s most popular children’s authors, Francesca Simon and Lauren Child, at the Royal Festival Hall.


Francesca Simon is the creator of the 24 best-selling Horrid Henry books. In 2006 Henry and all his unpleasant friends - Moody Margaret, Rude Ralph and Sour Susan - leaped onto our screens and became CITV's most successful TV series ever. At 14:00 on Friday 17 February Francesca will be introducing her acclaimed new book for older childen. Based on the mythical Norse goddess of the underworld, Hel, it is the follow-up to The Lost Gods (Sleeping Army 2) published in 2014.

Lauren Child is the author and illustrator of the picture book series Charlie and Lola (also broadcast on Cbeebies) and Clarice Bean. At 12:00 on Sunday 19 February Lauren will be talking about the inspiration behind her creations and her latest book Blink and You Die. It is the sixth and final story in the Ruby Redfort series featuring her much-loved code-cracking, super-spy heroine, Ruby.
