Mary Jane, Miu Miu: ballet flats are so trendy right now
When we spotted Keira Knightley wearing red velvety Mary Jane shoes on the London streets last week, we realised that ballet flats season had officially begun.
But let's ponder on the trend before going shopping:
Should we break the bank for a pair of Miu Miu with elastic straps or classics The Row? How about picking velvety venetian Mary Janes – à la Keira – at a much more affordable price? Or perhaps we could get the Alaïa-inspired (and totally sold out) Reformation black and studs ones?
Keira styled her red Mary Janes with tapered jeans and an oversized grey jacket. Ballet flats are also great to wear with maxiskirt or black leggings, in true 90s fashion.
We advise getting a cobbler to put a slip-resistant tread on the soles. And perhaps get a padded insole to make them more comfortable to wear.
