Glossy, glamorous, cool & chic: the best hotels, London 2022

Between their enviable interiors, superstar chefs and luxurious touches, London's new boutique hotels will tempt even those with a central London postcode to pack a bag and stay for the night.

One Hundred Shoreditch

One Hundred Shoreditch

On the site once home to hip, urban hangout Ace Hotel is One Hundred Shoreditch, the latest opening from the Lore Group, which also manages the Sea Containers. Perhaps the most significant influence the company is carrying over from its South Bank hub is cocktail maestro Ryan ‘Lyan’ Chetiyawardana, of Sea Containers bar Lyaness. Mr Lyan’s new mixology den Seed Library, in the basement of the 258-bedroom east London hotel, is where to head to sip his latest creations.

Elsewhere, sunshine-yellow fish restaurant Goddard and Gibbs is already attracting local footfall, and by summer a rooftop bar and terrace is set to lure in the after-work crowd. There’s a coffee hatch too, a street-facing wine bar and additional lobby bar.

A cluster of meeting and event rooms will make One Hundred Shoreditch a hive of productivity, and these hireable quarters are also equipped to host private dinners and receptions.

Broadwick Soho

Broadwick Soho

Broadwick Soho marks the first hotel designed by Martin Brudnizki, of Lyle’s and Wild by Tart acclaim. A petite, boutique offering (just 57 bedrooms!) nestled in the throbbing heart of Soho, it promises an intimate experience, with a sure-to-be-popular restaurant run by Randall & Aubin founders Jamie Poulton and chef Ed Baines.

The Twenty Two, Mayfair

The Twenty Two, Mayfair

The Twenty Two might be housed inside a Grade-II listed Edwardian manor house on polished Grosvenor Square, but everything about its outlook is contemporary and tastefully trendy. Maximalist interiors designed by Natalia Miyar are a nod to 18th-century France (we’re especially enchanted by sketches of the Cabochon marble bathrooms) while the colourful walls add a touch of spirited whimsy. In the kitchen, executive chef Alan Christie (formerly of flower-strung French restaurant Clos Maggiore) is overseeing a menu championing British dishes laced with Mediterranean influences, and there are several bars to get acquainted with, too. If you like what you see, sign up to the private members’ club arm of the business so you can languish here often.

Chateau Denmark, Soho

Chateau Denmark, Soho

Unapologetically garish and architecturally loud, Chateau Denmark is not so much a single hotel but a concept spread across 16 buildings on Soho’s Denmark Street. Housed within them are 55 ‘Session Rooms’ and apartments, many playfully graffitied over or deified with pictures of punk icons. Elsewhere, the hotel houses the first London branch of modern Chinese restaurant Tattu and a gym is promised soon.

Hotel Amano, Covent Garden

Hotel Amano, Covent Garden

The first international branch of the über-modern, Berlin-based hotel group, Amano Covent Garden is all about the nightlife, with a basement bar, roof terrace and promise of regular DJ sets. The rooms are relatively simple and minimalist, juxtaposed with a smattering of statement lighting. Details of the restaurant are yet to be announced, but if the Berlin branches are anything to go by, tantalising flavours from Tel Aviv may be on the menu. Its Drury Lane location makes Amano a great West End option for those hoping to catch some theatre, dance or an opera during their stay.

1Hotel Mayfair

1Hotel Mayfair

Luxury sustainability is the focus of 184-bedroom 1Hotel Mayfair, part of a pre-existing group with hotels in New York and Toronto. This extends from the interiors – made where possible using locally sourced and natural materials – through to the farm-to-table restaurant. Elsewhere, a lobby bar encourages mingling with other guests and a wellness centre boasts state-of-the-art fitness facilities.
