Every year, West End Live brings a riot of song, dance and elaborate costumes to Trafalgar Square as the stars of the stage leave the theatres for a huge outdoor celebration. And the fun won't stop in 2020: instead, it is moving online for a virtual musical theatre celebration.

Virtual West End LIVE is free to watch on West End LIVE Facebook page from 2pm on both Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June and will be available to stream for 24 hours. Look back on the highlights from the previous five years, with two specially-curated line-ups. Expect to enjoy performances from shows such as Matilda, Come From Away, The Lion King and Hamilton. Sing along to the songs you know and love, and discover new shows to go and see as soon as theatres re-open.

Along with the highlights programme, there are plenty of interactive additions. You can take part in a West End quiz or send in your requests for the big sing-along.

  • Escape the crowds

Trafalgar Square and the whole surrounding area will be mayhem. When the family has had their fill of musicals escape the crowds and tourist traps by walking across Hungerford Bridge to the South Bank. Then, head to Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden. This charming spot above the bustle of the South Bank is about as close to a wild woodland that you can get in central London – with the added bonus of a well-stocked bar. Designed by the Eden Project, the space uses an abundance of plants – over 100 varieties of native wildflowers, allotments, fruit trees – and artful theatrical lighting to recreate the effect of sunlight dappled trough trees and green glades. It's a gorgeous spot where the whole family can lose themselves and celebrate the sunshine.
