The Snowman has seen numerous adaptations, most notably the 1982 classic animated television special; but since 1997 the Birmingham Repertory Theatre's own adaptation has become the seasonal treat at the Peacock Theatre.
Like the film, the show is entirely without dialogue and follows a boy and his snowman on a Christmas adventure, where they encounter everything from dancing reindeer to Father Christmas himself. Howard Blake’s score, including ‘Walking in the Air’, will be performed by a live orchestra.
Described by the Huffington Post as 'a joyful festive treat that is entertaining for both children and adults alike,' The Snowman has been a family favourite for many years; though its longevity also means that it's ceased to surprise, leading the Telegraph to declare it 'in need of a reboot'.
Jaded critical opinion, though, is unlikely to bother the little ones, who are likely to thoroughly enjoy following the little boy and his enchanted snowman on their journey through a whimsical winter wonderland.
