Starring BAFTA winner Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, this high-fantasy will mark the culmination of a fantastic journey, with some new faces as well as reprisals from old favourites such as Sir Ian McKellen’s Gandalf.
Inhabited by elves, dwarves, wizards, and of course hobbits, the magical world of Middle Earth is packed with interesting characters and amazing adventures. The Battle of the Five Armies picks up where The Desolation of Smaug left off, with the dragon Smaug (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) about to descend upon Lake-town.
The director, Peter Jackson, has made Tolkein’s universe his own, with The Hobbit trilogy following from his Oscar winning The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Jackson has put his own, epic stamp on Middle Earth. Although The Hobbit is suitable for younger audiences than The Lord of the Rings, the trilogies share a number of cinematic techniques. In particular, The Hobbit builds upon the already impressive CGI utilised in Peter Jackson’s earlier venture into the world of Tolkein.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is sure to be a smash box-office sensation come winter, and will be a wonderful adventure for all the family this Christmas time.
