Throughout November, whisky enthusiasts will be able to sip on a specially curated cocktail list, mostly made with Toki whisky, while the space itself becomes the Toki Listening Bar. Serenading the experience are vinyl mixes from MAJ (My Analog Journal), which look to introduce listeners to elements of Japan’s Golden Era (circa 1950), but with a modern twist.
A highlight in the month-long programme comes on 22 November, when acclaimed Japanese bartender Hidetsugu Ueno, from Bar High Five in Tokyo, will personally be mixing up the highballs.
Additional dates for your diary are Thursday nights, when guest DJs takeover the Seed Library mixing booth. Look out for sets from: Shaqdi and Kay Suzuki (9 Nov); Ceylan Goksel and Mari* Kimura (16 Nov); Zag Erlat and Nina Yamada (23 Nov); and Zag Erlat, Shaqdi and Ceylan Goksel (30 Nov). All are running on a drop-in basis from 8pm - 12am.
Run by pioneering mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana ('Mr Lyan'), Seed Library has been a hub of innovation since it opened at new hotel 100 Shoreditch last year. Designed to appear like the inside of a record station, the bar offers a ‘lo-fi, analogue approach to bartending’, where a regularly changing cocktail menu runs alongside a low-intervention wine list and short selection of seasonal snacks.
The Toki Listening Bar is the next step in its ever-evolving offering.
The Toki Listening Bar is at Seed Library, 100 Shoreditch High Street, London E1 6JQ. 1 - 30 November, with DJ sets every Thursday night from 8pm - 12am. Click here to book.
