If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Dram & Smoke have had an incredibly successful—sell-out in fact—run last winter, with a feast of Scottish fayre fit for a king.
The principle here is the same—great food, well-sourced ingredients and large tables loaded with dishes perfect for sharing. This time, though, they’ve joined up with craft beer company Brewdog for a one-off Sunday Lunch. The six courses will be paired with six Brewdog beers to complement each – no doubt leaving you suitably tipsy. Brewdog's resident 'beer geeks' will also be on to explain each pairing – the perfect event for budding beer connoisseurs, or anyone looking to learn a little more about the art of brewing.
The food, however, is for us the main attraction, and Dram & Smoke's menu won’t disappoint. The Scottish boys are dishing out 'tongue-in-cheek' highland classics served up 'family style', and the generous six courses will commence with our personal favourite from the winter—a haggis bon bon with Buckfast broon sauce. That's followed by peas & cheese with smokin’ onion broth, then kedgeree and an intriguing slow-cooked rabbit with tattie scone.
You're then invited to tuck into the pièce de résistance: smoked pork belly with carrots and puffed barley. If that doesn't leave you feeling stuffed as a haggis, for dessert you'll be treated to a Dead Pony (beer)-battered Mars Bar served up with cornflake ice cream and (of course) Irn Bru drizzle. We can't tell if it sounds inedible or incredibly delicious, but we're willing to take the gamble.
As an Easter special there will also be a game of 'Beer Bingo’ at the start of the event, which invites diners to guess the food and beer pairings before the meal to win some Easter goodies, including tickets to Dram & Smoke's next pop-up.
You're then invited to stay at Brewdog and spend the rest of the day enjoying their impressive selection of beers – with forty different taps it won't be difficult to keep it interesting. Just thank your lucky stars Monday's a Bank Holiday.
