The World's End Market, residing in the former home of the World's End pub at 459 King's Road, serves up fresh, uncomplicated dishes aimed at protecting and parading the simple flavours of local market produce. Select your own meat to be grill-seared, including chicken breast from Norfolk, lamb chops from Devon, and various cuts of 28 day matured British beef. If you're after fish, there are some delicious sounding options, ranging from Newhaven plaice and Hampshire rainbow trout to fresh salmon fillets from Loch Duart in Scotland.
With recent gastronomical emphasis focused on responsible sourcing, The World's End Market couldn't have arrived at a better time. In addition to the grill options, diners are invited to try out their raw plates (including salmon carpaccio and sea bass ceviche) or take their pick from their changing all-day menu. There are a selection of burgers on offer including the classic burger of guilford beef, caramelised onion, tomato, shallots & home-made mayonnaise, or the crayfish roll burger, made with crayfish tails, butter, parsley & garlic, and served with house salad and french fries on the side.
The space is stripped-back and sparse, and carries itself with a 1930s air. The upstairs space hosts occasional film screenings and other events, whilst downstairs an attractive, well-stocked cocktail bar provides the perfect setting for a pre-dinner drink. In addition to classic cocktails there are a number of specialist market cocktails, including the Johnnie Quince, which features quince jelly muddled fresh lime juice, shaken with Johnnie Walker Black Label and apple juice or the Isle Garden, made from basil leaves muddled with fresh cucumber and beefeater gin mixed with honey and lime. The King's Road's latest in haute cuisine looks to likely to be a success among foodies, so we recommend popping in for a light lunch, or booking a table for a dinner to while away the January evenings.
