Come August, the Barbican Centre will be hosting a season of tv shows & movies celebrating the best in the eclectic Benedict Cumberbatch filmography. The season will be in celebration of Cumberbatch's sell-out performance in the Barbican's production of Hamlet this summer, and is a must see for fans of the talented British actor.
Films and TV shows aplenty
The season commences with JJ Abrams' Star Trek: Into Darkness, on 8 August, where Cumberbatch took upon the role of the deliciously evil Khan. Following this on the Benedict Cumberbatch film list comes a triad of cliffhangers from hit tv show Sherlock: Benedict Cumberbatch playing the infamously eccentric detective alongside Martin Freeman and a score of talented names in British television.
Next up in the series of Benedict Cumberbatch movies at Barbican is David Attwood's Stuart: A Life Backwards, which features Cumberbatch and actor Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road). Attwood's film explores the relationship between biographer Alexander Master and a homeless man living in Cambridge: lesser known film in the Benedict Cumberbatch biography, A Life Backwards is a touching yet comic gem that showcases this Oscar-winning actor's diverse talents.
Benedict Cumberbatch series, Barbican
With an eclectic range of the varying films and tv shows that make up the biography of Benedict Cumberbatch comes Tom Stoppard's Parade's End, mini-series adaptation starring Cumberbatch alongside Rebecca Hall with a marathon screening on 16 August.
Those who enjoyed The Theory of Everything will be fascinated to see another talented British actor taking the same role as Eddie Redmayne in Hawking: Cumberbatch capturing the essence of nobel prize-wining physicist Stephen Hawking during his PhD days at Cambridge for which Cumberbatch was rightly nominated a BAFTA for best actor in 2004.
One of the biggest released films in the Benedict Cumberbatch series is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, 2011 Le Carré novel adaptation and one of the biggest grossing among Benedict Cumberbatch recent movies. This slick and stylish wartime drama stars a host of British talents and is an unmissable addition to the Cumberbatch repertoire, also feature Gary Oldman, Simon McBurney, Toby Jones, Tom Hardy and Colin Firth and screening at Barbican on 30 August.
