Linen dresses to buy now: summer 2020
Losing your cool as the mercury rises? Look to linen for the easy, breezy, sustainable way to add a little luxury to your wardrobe
Forget sweaty synthetics, the heat of the summer calls for natural, breathable fibres that allow your body to regulate its temperature. Cotton might be the most common natural fibre in most wardrobes but for a touch of luxury with sustainable credentials, linen is hard to beat.
Linen is often avoided for one major reason: its uncanny ability to get creased and crumpled. Ironing linen while still damp and employing a judicious spritz of starch around areas over joints, such as knees and elbows, will achieve the best crease-free finish to start with. In an emergency, a crease-removing spray can help, but sometimes you may just need to lean in to the 'flaws' of the fabric.
Look for linen pieces with a casual, bohemian style – those that would work looking artfully undone – rather than attempting to look prim and polished. And if you're particularly keen on the eco-conscious aspect of the cloth, look for natural dyes and smaller scale or artisanal production methods.
