For the BBC Proms 2015 Alina Ibragimova will take to the Royal Albert Hall stage for two late-night concerts. Over the course of these nights, she will perform Bach’s complete work for solo violin. These six pieces, all completed by 1720, still stand as the high watermark of compositions for the instrument.
The second night begins with the Partita No. 2 in D minor, Bach's music of the profoundest, most lyrical melancholy. The concluding chaconne movement has often been called the greatest solo violin ever written. The Sonata No. 3 in C major is a whirlwind of compositional innovation, centring on a dazzlingly complex fugue. And the Partita No. 3 in E major, alternatively dashing and serene, conjures up its own vivid natual soundworld. By the hand of Ibagimova, these pieces will be sure to enchant.
£5 Promming tickets available on the day.
