Courtauld collection London
The Courtauld’s collection of over 7,000 drawings includes famous names like Durer, Michelangelo and Rembrandt, however since works on paper are so sensitive to light, they are sadly never on permanent public display. The new Gilbert and Ildiko Butler Drawings Gallery is the Courtauld’s first dedicated space for celebrating these hidden gems, and encouraging fresh curatorial interpretation.
Renaissance Modern exhibition 2015
The exhibition will present drawings by 16th century Italian and Northern European artists such as Parmigianino, Ligozzi and Goltzius, to convince us that preparatory studies are masterpieces in their own right. It was through these drawings that the Great Masters experimented with movement and new forms of idealised beauty, and arguably defined the ‘modern’ innovation of the Renaissance period.
Take a peak at some of the finest Renaissance works in the Courtauld's collection at this new display in Somerset House.
