For their next trick the fantastic contemporary art gallery Parasol unit presents a group exhibition of major abstract art from Belgium.
Curated by world-famous Belgian painter, Luc Tuymans, the show comprises some forty works carefully chosen to reveal the links between 20th century abstraction and contemporary practices.
Abstraction in art
Loosely situated within geometric abstraction and abstract constructivism, the earlier generation of artists you'll find on display were heavily influenced by pioneering artists like Piet Mondrian and the De Stijl group. Then there are the fascinating counterparts reconstructing Modernist ideas and concerns from today’s point of view.
Parasol unit exhibition
Featuring artists working in a variety of different media such as Francis Alys, Pieter Vermeersch and Gert Robijns: Tuymans traces clear relationships between current and early modes of abstraction, highlighting its enduring relevance.
Delving into the depths and limits of abstraction, this Parasol unit exhibition is a stylish and invigorating adventure - one certainly worth a visit!

Superstar painter Luc Tuymans was found guilty of plagiarism in 2015 after he appropriated a photograph of the politician Jean-Marie Dedecker, originally taken by Katrijn van Giel for the Belgian newspaper, De Standaard. Tuymans described the whole affair as 'moronic'.
