Hilary Lloyd is back at Sadie Coles HQ with a new film that projects monumental raw and edited video footage across the central London gallery's walls. It was in 2011 that Lloyd first caught the attention of the art world with her Turner Prize nominated show at Raven Row (2011) which embraced the physicality of film projection. Interestingly, Lloyd refuses to define herself as a filmmaker, but rather sees herself as an artist that employs video and film in her work.

For this work entitled Movie, Lloyd takes us back to familiar territory in her oeuvre which often tackles light, the gaze and the theatricality of the mundane. Movie feels like an unmediated stream of consciousness as flickers of abstract moments and more concrete narrative snippets from everyday life zip across our eyes, from streetlights and One Canada Square to windowpanes and foliage. The enormous projection is monumental, jarred by the curious juxtaposition of very normal vistas which move the viewer dramatically between different genres and moods. Lloyd also uses a blend of fixed cameras and roaming view points to create this fluid movement, a technique she also claims to make a nod towards 1970s cinema or even the pornographer's camera.
Prepare to immerse yourself in Hilary Lloyd's latest physical viewing experience.

  • The Connaught Bar

Achingly lavish and, admittedly, priced to match, this bar is open until 1am Monday to Saturday. It boasts one of the finest Martinis in town, crafted from handmade bitters and prepared in front of your eyes on the legendary Connaught Martini Trolley.

Possibly the best pre-theatre meal in Mayfair, Scott's serves wonderful seafood and steak. The setting is beautiful, and the atmosphere is relaxed, and the fish in particular is worth going out of your way for.
