Peter Liversidge biography
Liversidge is best known as a conceptual artist that combines performance and documentation. You may have seen him before at the Whitechapel in The Spirit of Utopia 2013 exhibition, when he staged a live stand-up comedy night and created blasts of 'summer snow' to shower passers-by.
Peter Liversidge Whitechapel Gallery exhibition 2015
Over 4 months, Liversidge encouraged a group of children to protest and express their views through songs against homework, a dislike of tight fitting shoes, tales of the school playground and even everyday life in east London. Featured at the Peter Liversidge Whitechapel show are a series of films, hand painted banners and archive material which narrate the project. Highlights include lyrics like 'More chocolate bars!' and 'I Don't Like Cooked Tomatoes', recorded in the performances by the school children and Liversidge at London's South Bank and May Day 2014 at the Whitechapel Gallery.
In the run up to the General Election 2015, this is a fun exhibition for children and adults to air their inner frustrations, and explore the power of community action.
