Lydia Gifford artwork
Blending abstract painting with sculpture and carpentry, Gifford’s work appears, from afar, very simple, almost spare. Up close, however, the story changes, and complex tensions between structure and surface begin to materialise.
Lydia Gifford biography
Having trained at Chelsea School of Art, London and the Royal College of Art, Gifford is very much a product of the capital. Her work, however, has earned respect far further afield, and admirers include the Universität der Künste, Berlin, Kunsthaus Basel, as well as the New York Times, which singled her out as a ‘rising star’ last autumn.
Laura Bartlett Gallery exhibition
Returning to Laura Bartlett art gallery that represents her, Gifford’s latest show is an important milestone in her development as one of contemporary art’s most exciting names to watch.
