Gintaras Didžiapetris bio
Born and educated in Vilnius, Didžiapetris’s non-disciplinary practice combines video with print media and sculpture. Didžiapetris believes that more things are produced than we can possibly understand and so he tries to trace an order through the endless objects and social obligations that already exist. Claiming that “representation is itself a representation”, Didžiapetris is dedicated to exploring the complexity of hidden and multiple realities.
Maureen Paley, London exhibition
This will be Didžiapetris’s first solo exhibition since his Leeds Pavilion commission, Audi Fantasy. Centring on footage from the Tokyo marathon, Didžiapetris’s three-part film reduces the running figures to logo-strewn avatars, creating a visual feast of abstract symbolism.
Having exhibited across the world, from the Venice Biennale to the Palais de Tokyo, contemporary art lovers who enjoy a challenge will love this Maureen Paley show.
